PARMIGIANI FLEURIER PRESENTS "MECHANICAL WONDERS" IN TOKYO
By Anna LamMarket News

Parmigiani Fleurier presents "Mechanical Wonders" in Tokyo, an exceptional exhibition marking the Maison's 30th anniversary. Running from 19 to 24 September 2026 at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT (Gallery 3), the exhibition brings together historical masterpieces from the Maurice Sandoz Collection alongside Parmigiani Fleurier's latest contemporary high-horology creations, exploring a fascinating theme: what can a mechanical object created three centuries ago teach us about the future of watchmaking?
For the first time in Japan, rarely seen treasures from the early 19th century — intricate pocket watches and automata — will be on public display. Preserved by the Édouard and Maurice Sandoz Foundation (FEMS) and restored by Parmigiani Fleurier's founder Michel Parmigiani, these pieces witnessed an era when watchmakers, craftsmen and inventors pushed mechanical technique far beyond timekeeping, blending mechanical ingenuity with decorative art and the charm of objects brought to life through movement.
Restoration has been part of the Maison's culture since long before its founding in 1996. Restoring exceptional historical timepieces and mechanical objects taught Michel Parmigiani to observe carefully before intervening, to understand the maker's original intent through structure, proportion and materials, and to preserve each object's essence without altering it. For Parmigiani Fleurier, restoration, creation and innovation belong to one and the same culture — a deep understanding of mechanical principles that continues to inspire movements, complications and contemporary watchmaking creations.
At "Mechanical Wonders", the restored Maurice Sandoz pieces and Parmigiani Fleurier's contemporary masterpieces — including La Rose Carrée, the Carillon Tourbillon and the TONDA PF Chronographe Mystérieux — are not merely displayed side by side: they open a dialogue across three centuries. Tokyo, a stage where audiences are steeped in craft culture and sensitive to materials, hosts the six-day exhibition — a rare opportunity to admire pieces seldom shown beyond the foundation's walls, and to explore the culture of restoration at the very origin of the Maison.
