Grand Seiko Celebrates Japanese Craftsmanship with Lexus Through the "Moondrop" GMT and "Yuka Momiji" Hi-Beat 36000 GMT Timepieces

Grand Seiko and Lexus co-present the All-New ES Elegance In Motion Car Show, now running through October 31 at the LEXUS Kowloon Bay Showroom. Marking the launch of the eighth-generation LEXUS ES — unveiled on September 11 with a fresh interpretation of modern luxury defined by serene comfort, refined craftsmanship and elegant design — Grand Seiko is showcasing two iconic timepieces from its Elegance Collection, highlighting how fine watchmaking and Japanese aesthetics complement one another in both brands' shared commitment to master craftsmanship, precision detailing and uncompromised excellence.

The "Moondrop" GMT timepiece (SBGM257) takes its inspiration from autumn night moonlight glistening on dew drops, its deep blue spiral-patterned dial unfolding delicate layers in shifting light and shadow. The "Yuka Momiji" Hi-Beat 36000 GMT timepiece (SBGJ273) features a red dial drawing from the gorgeous hues of autumn leaves reflected on lacquered Japanese wooden floors — a unique aesthetic where Japanese natural scenery intersects with traditional culture.

Both LEXUS and Grand Seiko adhere to the Eastern concept of "In Praise of Shadows" — using light and shadow to create depth — and to the golden ratio. The LEXUS ES carries smooth, elegant exterior lines, while its interior uses ambient lighting refracted off various surfaces to create a subtle yet profound interplay of light and shadow. Similarly, the hands and hour markers on Grand Seiko watches are cut and polished at multiple angles to capture even the faintest light, ensuring clear readability even in dimly lit environments: a quiet yet practical beauty.

Inside the LEXUS ES cabin, every detail — from the Sashiko-embroidered leather and laser-engraved wood trims to the intricate bamboo carvings and seat stitching — is hand-inspected and crafted by artisans with decades of experience. Each Grand Seiko Elegance case undergoes the exclusive Zaratsu super-polished finishing, with veteran watchmakers carefully adjusting angles by hand against the polishing disc for a flawless, distortion-free mirror finish, while dial textures such as Omiwatari and Shizukuishi Autumn Moonlit Night are brought to life through hand-engraved molds. The Grand Seiko movement also employs cutting-edge MEMS technology, machining ultra-fine components under precision monitoring at the 0.001mm level — a pursuit of perfection in every detail.
