Chopard Ambassadors Zhu Yilong and Liu Wen Wear the New Happy Diamonds Heritage and Happy Sport

Chopard has revisited the idea that started the Happy Diamonds line half a century ago. In 1976 the maison set diamonds loose between two sapphire crystals, free to move with the wearer rather than fixed in place, and built an aesthetic out of the idea that diamonds are happier when they are free.

Happy Diamonds Heritage returns to that founding proposition. Worn by Chopard Global Ambassador Zhu Yilong, the collection sets dancing diamonds between sapphire crystals against black onyx and ethical 18-carat yellow gold.

Zhu Yilong wears the Happy Diamonds Heritage 34 mm model, in ethical 18-carat yellow gold with 21 happy diamonds. The cushion-shaped case reinterprets the bold geometries of the 1970s, balancing circle against square, its rounded edges softening a structured form.

The onyx dial does most of the visual work. Polished to a mirror finish, its deep, velvety black absorbs light so that each diamond reads as a point of brilliance apparently suspended in space. Between the two crystals, the stones keep moving with every gesture, which was always the point.

He also wears a suite of matching jewellery, cufflinks and a pendant, each reducing the original design to its most graphic form: onyx, yellow gold and three moving diamonds inside sapphire.

Alongside the heritage pieces, Chopard introduces Happy Sport The First, worn here by Liu Wen, who is newly appointed Maison Ambassador. The 33 mm model is cased in Lucent Steel and built around the pebble-link bracelet originally imagined by Caroline Scheufele, Chopard Co-President and Artistic Director, its links shaped after stones polished by the sea.

Its dial is silver-toned and finely grained, with midnight blue Roman numerals, a railway minute track and blued sword hands, plus seven happy diamonds suspended between double anti-reflective crystals.

The pendants follow the same logic in a more architectural key: compact 16.5 mm rectangles in diamond-set ethical white gold on Zhu Yilong, and elongated 25.4 mm versions on Liu Wen, each holding three moving diamonds.
